A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. We and our third-party partners use cookies and similar technologies (web beacons, pixels) to remember your preferences, measure traffic, and deliver targeted advertisements.

Managing Cookies
You can control cookies through several means:
-
Our consent banner — When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or
reject non-essential cookies. You can revisit this choice at any time by clearing your
browser cookies (which resets the
fcd_consentcookie). - Browser settings — Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent some features from working correctly.
- Google Ad Settings — Opt out of Google interest-based advertising at google.com/settings/ads.
- Network Advertising Initiative — Opt out from multiple networks at networkadvertising.org/choices.
- Digital Advertising Alliance — Opt out at aboutads.info/choices.
4. Interest-Based Advertising (Google AdSense)
This site participates in Google AdSense, a service that displays advertisements provided by Google LLC. Google uses the DART cookie to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. The use of the DART cookie enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
If you have not accepted cookies through our consent banner, we configure AdSense to serve
non-personalised ads only (using the data-npa="1" parameter).
Non-personalised ads are still contextually targeted to the page content, but they do not use
your browsing history.
You may opt out of personalised advertising entirely by visiting Google's Ad Settings or by visiting aboutads.info. For more information on how Google uses data collected via AdSense, see Google's Privacy & Terms.
5. Third-Party Services
We integrate the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Google Analytics — website traffic measurement (Privacy Policy)
- Google AdSense / DoubleClick — advertising (Privacy Policy)
- Google Maps — contractor location display (Privacy Policy)
- Google Fonts — web typography (Privacy Policy)
These providers may receive information such as your IP address and browser information when their scripts load on our pages. We are not responsible for third-party data practices.
6. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data:
- With service providers — hosting (Hostinger), analytics (Google), advertising (Google AdSense) that help us operate the site, under contractual data-protection obligations.
- For legal compliance — when required by a court order, subpoena, or applicable law.
- To protect rights — when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our legal rights, prevent fraud, or ensure user safety.
- Business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as a business asset.
7. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit, server-side firewall protection, and rate-limiting controls to prevent automated attacks.
No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you transmit information to us at your own risk. In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected individuals within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, to the extent required by applicable law.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected:
- Contact form submissions: 3 years from submission date
- Account data: Duration of account plus 2 years after deletion request
- Google Analytics data: 26 months (Google's default retention setting)
- Server access logs: 90 days
- Business listing data (public records): Retained indefinitely as part of directory; contractors may request removal of inaccurate data
9. Your Privacy Rights
Rights Under GDPR (EEA / UK Residents)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR, respectively:
- Right of access — obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") — request deletion of your data where there is no compelling reason for continued processing.
- Right to restriction — request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw at any time without affecting lawfulness of prior processing.
- Right to lodge a complaint — you have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority (e.g., the UK ICO at ico.org.uk, or your national data protection authority in the EEA).
Our legal bases for processing are: contractual necessity (processing your data to fulfil a service you requested), legitimate interests (operating and improving the directory, fraud prevention, analytics), and consent (personalised advertising cookies, marketing communications).
We do not conduct any solely automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on individuals.
International transfers: Our servers are located in the United States. When we transfer data from the EEA or UK to the US, we rely on appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) where applicable (e.g., Google's data processing terms include SCCs for transfers to their US infrastructure).
Rights Under CCPA (California Residents)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), grants you the following rights:
- Right to know — request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months, including the categories of sources from which it was collected, the business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to delete — request deletion of personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising purposes as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. No opt-out is therefore required, but you may still limit advertising cookies through the methods described in Section 4 above.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — we do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under CPRA.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To submit a CCPA request, email us at privacy@flooringcontractordirectory.com with the subject line "CCPA Privacy Request." We will respond within 45 calendar days. We may require verification of your identity before processing your request.
10. Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take immediate steps to delete that information from our records. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@flooringcontractordirectory.com.
11. Do Not Track
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature. Because there is currently no universally accepted standard for responding to DNT signals, our site does not alter its data collection practices in response to DNT signals. You can control advertising tracking through the opt-out methods described in Sections 3 and 4 above.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
